When you select your ketubah, you are choosing a work of art which is a personal document that becomes a family heirloom as well. It fulfills two mitzvot, that of making the wedding couple rejoice, and of hiddur mitzvah, the beautification of a commandment. While a plain ketubah would suffice, our tradition encourages us to give it beauty.

Peggy H. Davis has been creating unique ketubot since 1980. They range in style from classic to contemporary and include a variety of techniques and materials. Peggy can work with you on a choice that will fit your budget.

Original Custom Ketubah: Created on rag paper or parchment, completely done by hand. Materials may include watercolor, gouache, colored pencil, gold leaf or papercutting in the border designs. The design is developed in conversation with Peggy and you will see sketches of the design to approve before the work begins. The text will be that of your choice.

Custom Ketubah with Printed Text: Your text is printed on rag paper and decorated by hand, with your choice of text. Perhaps you or a friend would like to decorate the text; see below for cost.

Custom-Print Ketubah: These are printed ketubot with digitized images of Peggy's original border designs, made with archival paper and ink. Each ketubah is printed separately, with the text of your choice. Some designs offer layout, color and border options as well.

Text: You may provide a text or use one that is provided on this web site. We can typeset any combination of Hebrew, English, Yiddish, Russian or other languages which use those alphabets. The Hebrew fonts used for typeset texts are made from Peggy's hand-lettering and are unique to her ketubot. The English or Russian fonts have been chosen for calligraphic quality and connection to Peggy's hand-lettering styles.

Links: Use the links to the left to see different parts of this page and text resources.

Non-discrimination: We will create a ketubah for any couple that approaches us. Occasionally we make a document for a non-Jewish couple, and we provide assistance in creating a text appropriate to the wedding. This often includes the wedding vows or a text based on a Quaker marriage certificate.

Delivery: You may pick your ketubah up in person, have it shipped in a tube, or shipped flat in a foam core holder/acetate envelope that can be used for display at the wedding.

Signing the ketubah: We can provide a felt-tip pen with archival ink for an additional 4.00.

Rush charge: When ordering a printed ketubah less than 3 weeks before the wedding, check with us to see whether it is possible for us to fulfill your order. A $50 rush charge will apply. For a completely custom ketubah, contact Peggy at least six weeks before the wedding.

There are on-line resources as well as books in which you can find reproductions of antique ketubot from many parts of the world. These can provide inspiration for a design. Any ideas you have based on these or other art work, and symbols, themes or designs which are personally meaningful to you can be incorporated into the custom design of your ketubah. SECTION TWO

The Custom-Print Ketubah

A Printed Ketubah Made Just for You

What is distinctive about a Peggy H. Davis Custom-Print Ketubah? We prepare your text as a fully typeset document so that there are no gaps in the text. Some printed ketubot have a pre-printed text and names are squeezed or stretched to fit the pre-determined blank spaces. That is not the case with our Custom-Print Ketubot. You have a unique selection of Hebrew fonts which are made from Peggy's hand-lettering. The borders and backgrounds you see below are Peggy's designs.

Cost: These ketubot have a basic price of $250-350 which includes personalization. Additional charges apply for certain further customization. Two designs, shown on the bottom left side of this page, give you ketubah options at a lower cost.

To order: For a Custom-Print Ketubah or Photo Ketubah, use the "How to order" button on this page to fill out the order form and ketubah information form. You will receive an e-mailed proof of the ketubah, to be proofread by you and the rabbi, and when approved, your ketubah will be printed. Call with any questions about what we can do or the cost of any options. See below for further customization options and charges.

Viewing ketubah choices: Clicking on each image below will show a larger image. Scroll on that page to see available layout or color choices.

Choice of text: Choose any of our standard texts, which you can alter if you wish, or provide your own custom text.

Other languages: We can typeset text in Hebrew, Yiddish, Roman and Russian alphabets. The English or Russian fonts have been chosen for calligraphic quality and connection to Peggy's hand-lettering styles. Hebrew and Yiddish texts are printed with Peggy's custom fonts based on her hand-lettering.

Size: The standard size of the Custom-Print Ketubah is 17" x 22;" you may order them in a smaller size. They are printed on archival quality rag paper with archival ink.

Customization: The text is always personalized for your wedding. Some designs may offer options for further customization from what you see on this site. Speak with Peggy or Yosl to discuss possibilities.
