WHAT'S NEWfrom theWHOLESALE KLEZMER BAND?Now in our twenty-eigth year, we are featuring new songs, stories and instrumental tunes by our members at our concerts: In honor of the 100th anniversary of our home congregation, Temple Israel of Greenfield, Yosl Kurland sings "100 Years Ago", whose lyrics he composed to a 1928 melody made famous by Yiddish comedian, Menashe Skulnick. A recent liturgical composition, Yosl's "Hashkiveynu for Shabbos," an evening prayer set as a Yiddish lullabye is now part of the repertoire. On the instrumental side, our clarinetist, David Tasgal leads us in "Reyzele's Hora" which he composed as a love song to his wife. What isn't new is the way we bring joyous and meaningful Jewish music to Jewish and non-Jewish audiences, with subtitles and storytelling so that everyone understands and feels included. |
